RFID User Authentification System for Manufacturing – Caron Engineering

Using this RFID technology, you can control user access to CNC manufacturing systems, both physical and software, directly from the employee badge.

This solution uses our MiConnect software integrated with ELATEC Inc. RFID badge readers to grant or prohibit system access. No more keys or passwords needed!

Today I would like to introduce our new RFID user authentication application for the manufacturing environment. Manufacturing systems and software access have historically been controlled by the use of a physical key or unique password access per system and application. Using our MiConnect software integrated with an Elatec RFID badge reader we can grant customized access and user permissions for all the Manufacturing Systems right from the employee badge. Let me show you an example of how this technology will work on a machine. So in this example we’re basically going to show that you can either be allowed or disallowed to edit part programs based on your access from the badge. Here I have a person that’s considered a machinist for this job. If I scan machinist at the Elatec badge reader it will show us the access that this person has. In this case it’s saying they cannot edit the part program. If I come over and make an attempt to edit a part program by deleting its piece of code we can see that the right protect message comes on saying this user does not have access to edit the program. Now if a supervisor comes over and scans their badge at the Elatec reader it’s going to tell them that they can edit the part program. I can now come over to the control and actually delete a function and you can see that that was allowed to be done. So this technology can be applied to all types of systems including our own TMAC (Tool Monitoring Adaptive Control system.) TMAC has the ability to have a lot of user access levels to allow or disallow different functions in our system to be used. Currently it would require username and password but by applying MiConnect and the Elatec badge reader you can actually get access straight off your plant entry badge so whatever permissions are granted for each person automatically become available as they scan their badge. This same process can be used for many parts of the manufacturing cell including allowing and not allowing tool offset changing and things like opening and closing the actual door to access the machine. Any function of the Machine Tool really can be controlled and accessed or denied access using the badge that you entered the plant with.  [Music]
